Six Decades of Family Excellence: Our Journey in HVAC and Plumbing Innovation in San Antonio

As our family at Comfort-Air Engineering, Inc. and Primo Plumbing, Inc. [Freund Enterprises, Inc.] prepare to celebrate our 60th anniversary and unveil our new corporate headquarters in San Antonio, we are filled with pride and gratitude. Our journey, which began in 1964, has been one of resilience, innovation, and steadfast commitment to our community in providing top-notch HVAC, heating, and cooling services.

Our story started with a vision rooted in mechanical engineering expertise and a passion for serving the San Antonio community. Our founders, John and Robert Freund, fresh from The University of Texas at Austin, embarked on this adventure, determined to make a mark in the HVAC industry. Those early years shaped us, instilling a commitment to excellence and personalized service that set the foundation for our legacy.

A pivotal moment in our growth was our involvement in the Hemisphere ’68 project, which catapulted us from a local small business to an industry leader in HVAC, heating, and cooling services. Our growth has been steady and purposeful, allowing us to expand our family within the business. The addition of Scott Freund in 1991, Tom Freund in 1992, and later Matthew, Patrick Freund, and Andrea Wurzbach marked a new era of innovation and expansion.

The transition to plumbing services in 2007 with Primo Plumbing was not just a business expansion but a pledge to offer comprehensive mechanical solutions to our beloved San Antonio.

Today, we stand on the brink of ushering in the third generation of leadership with Clint Wurzbach and Joshua Freund. Our pride is in our growth from a modest startup to a major player in the HVAC and plumbing industries and in our enduring commitment to the San Antonio community. We’ve expanded our reach, extending our HVAC and plumbing services north of San Antonio to areas like Boerne, Bulverde/Spring Branch, New Braunfels, and San Marcos.

Our core values – a family environment, self-motivation, team orientation, grit and tenacity, and protecting our reputation – have been the guiding principles through our six-decade journey. These values resonate in every heating, cooling, and plumbing service we provide, ensuring we uphold the high standards we’ve set for ourselves.

In 2022, we launched the “Progress to Success Program.” This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled technicians in HVAC and plumbing. This program offers young adults in San Antonio an alternative pathway to a rewarding career in these essential trades. It emphasizes hands-on learning and practical experience, providing an accessible career pathway for those without a college degree and reinforcing our role in building San Antonio’s skilled workforce.

As we reflect on our 60 years in business, we’re not just reminiscing about our past; we’re actively preparing for the future. With potential economic shifts on the horizon, including a forecasted recession in 2024, we remain focused on resilience and agility. We’re aligning our HVAC and plumbing services with the latest technological innovations and environmental considerations, ensuring we provide the most advanced and sustainable options to our customers in San Antonio.

We invite the San Antonio community to join us in celebrating this significant milestone. We are excited to continue our journey in HVAC, plumbing, heating, and cooling, dedicated to providing quality, integrity, and unmatched customer satisfaction.

Here’s to our past, present, and future – a story of a family’s dedication to excellence in HVAC and plumbing right here in San Antonio.
