Top 3 Things To Consider When Buying an Air Conditioner:
Efficiency – An efficient system will not only lower your energy costs, but also lower your impact on the environment. System cooling efficiency is measured in SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). The higher the SEER, the greater the system’s energy efficiency – much like miles per gallon in a car.
Buy the right sized unit – Bigger is not necessarily better. Studies show that up to half of home air conditioners don’t work the way they should because they are oversized. Air conditioners that are oversized turn off and on more frequently than necessary, using more energy and leading to higher utility bills. They’re noisier and aren’t as effective dehumidifying your home as a smaller system would be. Oversized air conditioners don’t mean more comfort for you – they mean higher upfront costs, higher electricity bills, and a home that’s uncomfortable to live in.
A heating & air conditioning system is not a commodity like a washer & dryer or microwave oven. Its efficiency, reliability, performance and safety are directly related to the quality of installation, proper sizing, and air distribution. It’s important when investing thousands of your hard earned dollars on a new system that it performs as expected, and shortcuts aren’t taken in the design or installation process that will bite you later. Beware of the low bidder – a few bucks saved upfront isn’t worth a system that underperforms over time.
